Certificate in Multi-Robot Systems, Swarm Coordination and Distributed Autonomy

  • 5 Days

Course Overview

Course Overview This professional certificate provides practical knowledge and hands-on experience in coordinating multiple autonomous agents that must operate as a coherent system without relying on a single point of control. Participants will learn the mathematical foundations of distributed coordination, including graph-based representations of communication topology, consensus and formation control, and the conditions under which convergence and stability can be established. The programme then addresses the engineering realities that defeat idealised algorithms in the field: intermittent and lossy communication, heterogeneous platforms, asynchronous updates, deconfliction in shared workspaces, and graceful degradation when agents fail or become isolated. Through analytical exercises, large-scale simulation laboratories, communication degradation studies, and a fleet-level capstone, participants will develop the competencies required to design multi-robot systems whose collective behaviour remains predictable as the fleet grows. Suitable For • Robotics and Autonomous Systems Engineers • Fleet Management and Orchestration Developers • Warehouse and Intralogistics Automation Teams • Defence and Unmanned Systems Engineers • Drone Swarm and UAS Operations Specialists • Agricultural and Environmental Robotics Teams • Port, Mining and Construction Automation Engineers • Control and Distributed Systems Engineers Course Profile Level: Advanced Professional Development Approach: Analytical derivation sessions, large-scale simulation laboratories scaling from small teams to large fleets, communication degradation studies, failure injection scenarios, task allocation workshops, and a fleet-level capstone project. Entry Requirements: Working knowledge of Python and undergraduate-level linear algebra. Prior experience with single-robot systems is strongly beneficial. A standard multi-core workstation is sufficient for the laboratories.
